10 things that definitely happen when you meet another boxer

10 things that definitely happen when you meet another boxer

23rd Apr 2018

When it comes to meeting other boxers, things inevitably become a bit of a competition. There are many ways that this competition can take shape, through comparing who has the best gear, to ensuring you have the strongest handshake.

1. You size each other up

When it comes to meeting a fellow boxer for the first time things can be a little frosty, as the first point of call is always to stare each other out to try and work out if they are a threat.

2. You secretly check out their boxing gear

Depending on where you stumble across each other, you may be able to secretly check out and compare their boxing gear when no one is looking to see what gloves they are using, if they have the latest footwear and how legit their equipment is.

3. A firm handshake

When introducing yourself, you always try to psych the other guy out with a firm handshake. This includes, squeezing the hand slightly too hard and staring deep into their eyes to see who squirms first.

4. You boast about winning fights

This is one of the most important topics for a boxer, if anything, just for pride. Finding out a boxer’s fight record is super important as you need to know if you can take them. This is also a great opportunity to gauge their level.

5. You chat about workout routines

Finding out how hard the other boxer works out in the gym (do you even lift bro?) is vital to finding out how strong they are. This includes; comparing how many press ups they can do, how heavy they can lift and how good they are with a skipping rope.

6. You compare scars and stories

Who has the biggest battle scars or best boxing horror story? Basically, a bit of a boast about your boxing career and trying to one up each other.

7. Diet discussions – obviously

Seeing how many raw eggs the other can down in one go, how much protein they need in a day and how many calories they pack away can give you an indication into how strong they are and how hard they train.

8. You challenge them to a fight

The only real way to find out how good another boxer is, is to challenge them to a fight – whether this be here and now or something to schedule in the future. (Cue Eye of the Tiger).

9. Either mutual respect or you become arch enemies

At the end of the day it only goes one of two ways, you either become arch enemies and you’re left face down on the canvas, or you realise mutual respect for each other and become bros for life.

10. Research each other online

Once you’ve walked away, you ALWAYS do a quick Google, just for research purposes obviously, not to prove that you are the better boxer or anything…

How many of these can you relate to? Tag and share with your boxing mates that you know will appreciate this and who have probably experienced most of the above!
