8 Things You’ll Know If You Date a Boxer

8 Things You’ll Know If You Date a Boxer

9th Feb 2018

Dating a boxer has its benefits as they’re fit, healthy and you know they can commit as you see them put in all that hard work. As that’s a given, here are eight things you’ll only know if you date a boxer…

1. They have no days off

If they’re not training, they’re talking about training or ditching you for training! At least it seems like it every time you get a text from the gym or have to wait 30 mins for them to meet you as they’re running late. The plus side is you can tag along for a free ride to the gym and they can’t get mad the next time you’re too busy to hang out.

2. They’re strong huggers

It’s no surprise that boxers give hearty hugs as they’ve got the muscles to apply that extra pressure! If you like getting squished when you need affection, it’s no problem. Otherwise, spend some time developing wiggle tactics and hug arm first to make extra room.

3. When do they not have cuts and bruises?

It’s a hazard of the boxing life and one you’re just a little bit fed-up of (if you’re being honest)! If they’re not complaining about bruised ribs, cut knuckles or sore feet, are they even a boxer?

4. They’re always hungry or eating

Boxing is hungry work and wherever you are, whatever you do, they’re thinking about food and their next protein fix. Especially when they’ve got a fight coming up and they’re on a strict diet to make sure they stay in their weight class.

5. Look away for a second and they will be shadow boxing

Whether it’s in the middle of the kitchen, at work or at a friend’s birthday party, you’ll catch them in the corner of your eye shadow boxing or practising their technique. As they wait for someone to ask ‘Do you box?’ before repeating their origin story, it’s tempting to make a quick exit…

6. There’s constant dirty washing

Training and bouts make a sweaty mess, and don’t you know it! It feels like they’ve always got their kit in the wash with a huge holdall out on the floor in front of it – marking their territory. You’re grateful they stay clean but sometimes it’s nice not to hear the hum of the washing machine whilst you’re trying to watch TV.

7. When are they not looking at boxing notifications and news?

Some people might worry their partner is texting around or just disinterested, but when you see them on their phone you know it’s a constant stream of match scores, boxing news, and notifications. They’re not replying to you because they haven’t heard a word you’ve said!

8. You feel proud!

Despite the ups and downs, you feel proud of their dedication and passion for the sport and how it shows in their happiness and six-pack. You catch yourself bragging to friends that you’re dating a boxer and you always tag yourself at their bouts.
