Boxing Skipping Ropes
A boxing skipping rope is the cheapest piece of conditioning kit you will ever buy and the one most boxers use every session. Boxfit UK stocks 32 ropes from Pro Box, Adidas, Fly, Ringside, Tuf Wear and Twins, from a £2.50 nylon speed rope up to leather ropes with wooden handles and weighted ropes for strength work. Whether you are learning to skip for your first class or chasing double-unders, we can match you to the right rope.
Which boxing skipping rope suits your training?
A nylon speed rope is where most boxers start: light, cheap, quick to adjust and forgiving when you catch your feet; see the range in speed ropes. A wire or cable rope spins on bearings, cuts through the air faster and is the tool for double-unders; find them in wire boxing ropes. A beaded rope holds its shape in the air and clicks on the floor, the best rope for learning rhythm. The classic leather boxing rope with wooden handles has been in gyms for a century because it swings with a weight and feedback thin nylon cannot match. Weighted ropes add shoulder and forearm conditioning; browse weighted boxing ropes.
Getting the length right
Stand on the middle of the rope with one foot and pull the handles up. For a beginner the handle ends should reach the armpits; experienced skippers shorten to chest height for a faster, tighter loop. A 9ft rope suits most adults up to about six feet tall, and most nylon, wire and beaded ropes can be shortened by trimming or moving a stopper. Leather ropes are usually fixed length, so check before ordering. Children need shorter ropes, and our kids skipping ropes are cut for them.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a boxing skipping rope be?
Stand on the middle and the handles should reach your armpits as a beginner, or your chest once you are confident. For most adults that means a 9ft rope, adjusted down. Too long and the rope drags on the floor; too short and you will trip on every pass.
Why do boxers skip?
Skipping builds footwork, calf endurance, rhythm and cardiovascular fitness at the same time, with no equipment beyond the rope. It teaches you to stay light on the balls of your feet and to coordinate hands and feet, which carries straight into ring movement.
Which rope is best for double-unders?
A wire or cable speed rope on ball bearings. The thin cable turns fastest with the least effort, and the bearings stop the handles binding. Most boxers learn double-unders on a beaded or nylon rope first, then move to wire once the timing is there.
