Boxing Vests for Training and Competition
Boxing vests are the lightest, coolest thing you can train and compete in, and Boxfit UK carries 26 of them: amateur competition singlets in red and blue from Sting, Rival, Adidas and Everlast, plain poly training vests from our own Boxfit and Pro Box ranges, and gym vests from Kronk, Cleto Reyes and FLY. Adult and kids sizes start from £4.99, so a whole club can be kitted out for the season without fuss.
Competition boxing vests or training vests?
Competition vests, often called singlets or amateur vests, are cut to the amateur rule book: sleeveless, scoop necked and plain bodied in a corner colour, so judges can see clean scoring shots to the target area. Corners are drawn, so most club boxers keep one red and one blue. The Sting Mettle singlet, the Rival amateur competition tank and the Everlast amateur competition vest are all built for this job,. Training vests are looser in the rules and lighter on the wallet: a polyester club vest wicks sweat, dries overnight and takes club printing well. Ring wear vests for professional and show fights are made in satin or shiny poly to match your shorts; find those in boxing ring wear vests.
Fabric, fit and sizing
Polyester is the standard fabric for boxing vests because it is light, wicks sweat and does not hold water like cotton, which matters when you are making weight. Competition vests are cut close so there is no loose fabric for a glove to catch; gym vests from Kronk and Cleto Reyes are cut roomier. Junior boxers should buy from kids boxing vests rather than sizing down an adult vest, as the armholes and length are cut differently, and women's fits are listed under women's boxing vests.
Match your vest to your shorts
Most boxers buy vest and shorts as a pair so the corner colour and brand match on show night. The Adidas Base Punch II and Sting Mettle vests both have matching boxing shorts, and complete outfits are in boxing ring wear sets. For clubs, plain Boxfit and Pro Box vests in one colour make an inexpensive squad kit that can be printed with your club name. We have supplied amateur clubs since 2006, so competition vests are in stock through the season rather than ordered in when you have a bout in a fortnight; discontinued colours and last sizes sit in boxing vests clearance.
Frequently asked questions
Do amateur boxers have to wear a vest?
Yes. England Boxing rules require boxers to compete in a vest and shorts, and the accepted practice is a vest in your corner colour so officials and judges can tell the two boxers apart. Check the current rule book or ask your coach before you buy for a specific show.
What colour boxing vest should I buy for competition?
Buy one red and one blue. Corners are allocated on the night, not chosen, so you need both colours ready in your bag. Most competition vests from Sting, Rival and Adidas are sold in both colours in the same cut, so you can order a matching pair.
What size boxing vest should I get?
Competition vests should sit close to the body without riding up; go with your usual t-shirt size and check the brand chart on the product page. Gym vests can be a size up for comfort. Juniors should always use the kids range for correct armhole and length.
