Kids Boxing Gloves
Kids boxing gloves need to do two jobs at once: protect small hands and wrists, and be light enough that a child can keep them up for a full round. Boxfit UK stocks 21 pairs for boxing, kickboxing and karate juniors from Adidas, Rival, Pro Box, Tuf Wear, Cleto Reyes and Carbon Claw, from play gloves through training gloves to safety sparring gloves, from £12.99.
Which weight kids boxing gloves?
Children's gloves run from 4oz to 10oz, and the right weight depends on the child's size and use rather than age. As a guide, 4oz suits the smallest beginners, 6oz covers most primary-school-age children for pads and bags, 8oz fits older juniors, and 10oz is right for bigger juniors and any child starting to spar. If in doubt, size up; a heavier glove carries more padding. Check the brand's hand measurement guide, because a glove that fits matters more than the ounce figure. Older or larger juniors may be better served by our junior boxing gloves, which bridge the gap to adult sizes.
Play, training or sparring gloves?
Play gloves are soft, lightweight gloves for under-sevens learning to punch pads with a parent or coach. Training and bag gloves have firmer padding for pad rounds and bag work and are what most club juniors need. Sparring gloves carry extra padding over the knuckles to protect the partner as well as the wearer; the Cleto Reyes and Tuf Wear safety spar gloves are built for supervised club sparring. See both in kids training and sparring gloves. Any child who spars also needs a fitted head guard from kids head guards, and every child should wear kids hand wraps under their gloves from the first session.
Brands we stock
Adidas junior gloves are the club standard, with Velcro closures a child can manage alone. Rival's Future kids bag gloves are among the best padded at the size. Pro Box and Tuf Wear offer PU gloves that stand up to club use at a price that makes growing out of them painless. Fly, Ringside, Bytomic, Sting, BBE and Cimac cover the rest of the range, and Cleto Reyes makes leather kids sparring gloves for juniors who train seriously.

Frequently asked questions
What size boxing gloves does a 10 year old need?
Usually 6oz or 8oz, depending on the child's build and whether they are sparring. A slight ten-year-old doing pads and bags is fine in 6oz; a bigger child, or one starting supervised sparring, should go to 8oz for the extra padding. Measure the hand and check the brand's guide.
Do children need hand wraps with boxing gloves?
Yes. Wraps support the small bones of the hand and wrist, which are still developing, and they keep sweat out of the glove lining. Shorter kids wraps are easier to put on and take off; clubs show children how to wrap in their first week.
Can a child use adult boxing gloves?
Not well. Adult gloves start at 10oz and are cut for a much bigger hand, so a child's fist sits loose inside and the wrist is unsupported. Buy a properly sized kids glove and replace it as they grow.
