Boxing Protective Gear & Body Protection
Boxing protective gear stops being optional the moment you start taking punches, and this is the full Boxfit UK range: 250 items covering head guards, gum shields, groin guards, chest protectors and coach body protectors from Adidas, Opro, Sting, Rival, Cleto Reyes and Pro Box. It suits everyone from a beginner buying their first gum shield to an amateur kitting out for the season, with prices from £2.99.
The boxing protective gear you actually need
Three items cover most people. A gum shield comes first: every gym insists on one before you spar, and a boil-and-bite shield from Opro or SafeJawz is the cheapest kit you will ever buy. A groin guard follows once you start sparring or body-shot drills; men need a cup guard, and there are dedicated women's protection options including chest guards and low-blow protectors. A head guard is the third piece. Open-face guards give the best vision and are the sparring favourite, cheek guards add cover over the cheekbones, and full-face guards with a bar protect the nose at the cost of some visibility. All three styles are in boxing head guards.
Sparring gear versus competition gear
For sparring, wear whatever gives you the most confidence; thicker padding is a fair trade for a little extra weight. Competition is different. Amateur bouts under England Boxing rules require approved head guards for juniors and many senior categories, so check the approval marks on the product page before buying for a show, or go straight to amateur competition head guards. Sting, Adidas and Rival make guards carrying the relevant approvals, and we stock them in red and blue for either corner.
Buying protection for a club or coaching team
Coaches taking rounds on the pads need protection too. Coach body protectors from Rival and Pro Box absorb body shots so you can hold for more boxers a session without paying for it the next morning. For club orders, the Pro Box and Carbon Claw gum shields and groin guards give durable kit at a price that works across a squad, and juniors have correctly proportioned guards in kids body protection.
Why buy boxing body protection from Boxfit UK
We have fitted head guards and sized groin guards in our Romford store since 2006, and we answer the phone six days a week. Leather guards from Cleto Reyes and Rival suit boxers who spar several times a week; hard-wearing synthetics from Pro Box and Carbon Claw suit club use. Orders go out with express UK delivery, and gum shields and mouth guard cases are small enough to add to any order.
Frequently asked questions
What protective gear do you need for boxing?
For pad and bag work, only hand wraps and gloves. As soon as you spar you need a gum shield, a groin guard and, at most clubs, a head guard. Amateur competitors also need approved competition head guards where the rules require them, in their corner colour.
Do boxing head guards prevent concussion?
No. A head guard reduces cuts, bruising and swelling from clashes and glancing blows, which is why sparring guards exist, but it does not stop the head moving on impact. Good defence and sensible sparring intensity are the real protection.
How should a groin guard fit?
Snug enough that it does not shift when you move but not so tight that it restricts breathing or hip rotation. Cup guards should sit flat against the body with the cup fully covering the groin, and most boxers wear them over a base layer rather than on bare skin.
