Boxing Hand Wraps & Tape

Boxing hand wraps are the cheapest insurance you will ever buy for your hands, and with 132 wraps and tapes in this range from Adidas, Rival, Sting, Knuckle Sandwich, Empire and Pro Box there is no excuse to hit a bag without them. A good wrap supports the wrist, binds the small bones of the hand together and keeps sweat out of your gloves. From beginners' cotton wraps to the tape and gauze used on fight night, it is all here from 99p.

Which boxing hand wraps should you buy?

Elasticated (Mexican style) wraps have a little stretch, so they mould to the hand and stay tight through a full session; they are the pick for most boxers. Cotton wraps do not stretch, which some traditionalists prefer for a firmer, more rigid wrap. Gel wraps and quick wraps slip on like a fingerless glove with a wrist strap and are ideal for fitness classes or anyone who struggles to wrap properly. Some clubs and competitions ask for approved wraps, such as the Adidas approved wraps here. Women and juniors with smaller hands should look at women's hand wraps and kids hand wraps.

Hand wrap lengths: 2.5m, 3.5m or 4.5m?

Most adult boxers use 4.5m wraps, which give enough length for several passes over the knuckles and a solid wrist section. Choose 2.5m or 3.5m for smaller hands, kids, or if you find a full-length wrap bulky inside a snug glove. Wraps wear out, so keep two or three pairs in rotation and wash them in a mesh bag after every session. The full plain range is in boxing hand wraps.

Boxing tape and gauze for competition

Professional and amateur competitors have their hands wrapped in gauze and tape by a coach or cutman rather than using a reusable wrap. Our boxing hand tape covers the pro tape rolls and gym tape from Empire and others, sold singly or by the box. Tape wraps must be applied and checked in line with the rules of the sanctioning body, so learn the method from your coach before fight night.

Why buy hand wraps from Boxfit UK

Frequently asked questions

How long should boxing hand wraps be?

Adults generally use 4.5m wraps for full coverage of the wrist, knuckles and thumb. Smaller hands, juniors and anyone wearing a tight-fitting glove usually get on better with 2.5m to 3.5m. If the wrap leaves you with excess to tuck in, go shorter next time.

Are elasticated or cotton hand wraps better?

Elasticated wraps are easier to apply, stay put and suit the vast majority of boxers. Cotton wraps are firmer and do not compress, which some experienced boxers prefer for heavy bag work. Both protect the hand; pick whichever you will actually wear every session.

Can I use boxing tape instead of hand wraps?

For everyday training, no. Tape is single use, takes time to apply properly and is meant for competition under a coach or cutman. Use reusable hand wraps for bag work, pads and sparring, and save tape for fight night.
