Hook and Jab Pads

Hook and jab pads are the coach's most-used piece of kit, and we stock 109 of them: focus pads, punch mitts, Cuban-style speed pads and air pads from Rival, Pro Box, Carbon Claw, Phenom, Cleto Reyes, Adidas, Sting and Pound 4 Pound, from £17.99. Whether you are a club coach holding for thirty boxers a night or a parent doing pads in the garden, the right pad saves your hands and sharpens the puncher.

Which hook and jab pads do you need?

Pads split into three types. Padded focus pads such as the Pro Box Champ and Rival RPM100 Professional punch mitts have a thick shock-absorbing layer and a curved face that catches hooks and uppercuts cleanly; they suit coaches holding many rounds for hard punchers. Speed pads, including the Pro Box Cuban speed pads and Phenom Strike-Back, are smaller, lighter and flatter, so the puncher has to be accurate and the coach can fire back a counter. Air pads from Pound 4 Pound and Phenom use an air-filled chamber that gives a loud pop and takes the sting out of the coach's palm.

Curved or flat, leather or synthetic?

A curved pad guides the punch into the centre and is easier on the holder's wrist, so it is the default for most coaches; a flat pad demands better accuracy and gives more honest feedback on a straight punch. Leather pads from Cleto Reyes, Rival and Pro Box cost more but last for years of club use; synthetic pads from Carbon Claw, Tuf Wear and Adidas are lighter, cheaper and fine for home use. Look for a finger loop, a padded back and a wrist strap you can tighten one-handed; a pad that spins on the hand is how thumbs get sprained.

Pads for coaches and clubs

If you hold for a full session, the pad protects you as much as the boxer. Choose thicker padding and a proper wrist strap, and consider a coach body protector for body-shot rounds and a strike shield for power work. Kick boxers should look at the Thai kick pads, and the wider coaching aids range covers the rest of a session.

Why buy focus pads from Boxfit UK

Our staff hold pads as well as sell them, so the advice is practical: which pads are too heavy for a two-hour session and which a hard-punching heavyweight will flatten in a month. We have supplied clubs across the UK since 2006, stock the right boxing gloves for pad work, and reduce discontinued models in the hook and jab pads clearance. Express UK delivery and expert help by phone six days a week.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between focus pads and hook and jab pads?

Nothing. Hook and jab pads is the traditional British term, focus pads and focus mitts are the same thing, and punch mitts is what North American brands such as Rival call them.

Should I buy curved or flat hook and jab pads?

Curved for most people. The curve funnels the punch to the centre of the pad and is easier on the holder's wrist. Flat pads suit experienced coaches doing technical work who want the boxer to be exact with straight punches.

What gloves should you wear on hook and jab pads?

Bag gloves or training gloves of 10oz to 14oz are ideal; the firmer padding is built for repeated impacts on pads. Always wrap your hands underneath, and pair heavier gloves with air pads or thicker focus pads to protect the holder.
