Top UK Boxers to Watch Out For in 2017

Back in December Nicola Adams won Sportswoman of the Year for the second time and capped off another great achievement. Since then we’ve wanted to celebrate British talent and here’s a list of our top UK boxers!

Take a look at highlights for each of these champs and see if we’ve put your favourite in. Any you think deserve to be on this list we’ve missed? Tweet us at @boxfituk using the hashtag #myukboxer and you might get a retweet.

Carl Frampton

The first Northern Irish boxer to win a world title in two weight divisions, Carl Frampton is now a featherweight king. At 29 he had his name up in lights in Las Vegas for his bout against Leo Santa Cruz and if often credited as inspiring a bit of a sporting renaissance in his home country.

One of the elements of his success is his great relationship with his manager Barry who gets him motivated for each fight. A lot of his passion comes from his family and now he’s in the ultimate big leagues, he’s still a modest bloke whose very approachable.

Anthony Joshua

Another MBE champion in our list, we’ve watched this man go from amateur to currently holding the IBF heavyweight title since 2016. He has also held the British and Commonwealth titles and has been a strong contender since he entered the limelight. 2012 was a fantastic year for him where he won the Gold Olympic medal on home ground at the London Olympics.

You might want to get ready to sit down here – he has an impressive 100% knockout-to-win-ration. Now that can only be done with immense skill and solid, consistent training and performance in the ring. We tip our hats to you sir. Stop by the shop sometime, yeah?

Nicola Adams

Putting female boxing well and truly in the public eye, Nicola Adams has become a household name. The flyweight boxer from Leeds has collected an impressive amount of wins, including an Olympic Gold at the London 2012 Games (becoming the world’s first female boxing Olympic Champion) and a Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She was also awarded an MBE in 2013.

So when we think of her, the word legendary certainly comes to mind, especially as she held onto her Olympic title at the Rio 2016 Games, again, the first ever woman to do so. What’s next? The sky is well and truly the limit.

Kell Brook

Kell is currently enjoying the lofty heights of being crowned world’s best welterweight by The Ring magazine. Since 2014 he’s been the IBF welterweight champion and got a lot of love from boxing fans in 2016 when he stepped up two weight divisions to fight Golovkin at the O2 division. Although he lost, he showed great showmanship and dedication through the rounds.

Looking ahead, it doesn’t seem like there’s any limit to what he can achieve in his career. He even once said he’d cut off his leg to make weight to fight Amir Khan. Not advisable but certainly shows off his famous spirit.

Also, how good is that Twitter handle?
